Elyse “Lisi” Harrison
Lisi Harrison was born in Toronto, Canada, on July 29th, 1970. Today, she is a young adult’s writer in Laguna Beach, CA. Unlike in her series, The Clique, she was neither wealthy nor mean. Until 9th grade, she went to a private Hebrew school, and then went to Forest Hill Collegiate, a public high school. When Lisi was eighteen, she moved to Montreal to attend the Canadian Harvard, McGill University for filming. After two years at McGill, she had a change of heart. She knew she would rather be a writer than a film maker. As a result, she transferred to Emerson College in Boston, MA where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing. After graduation, Lisi got a casting job on an MTV game show called Lip Service. She worked as a casting director for 12 years at MTV and then got promoted to Head Writer and then to the Senior Director of Development. While at MTV, she developed shows including, Room Raiders. Lisi was also the writing producer for MTV and a columnist for Jane Magazine. While working for MTV, Lisi wrote her first two Clique books: The Clique and Best Friends for Never. In 2004, she decided to quit her job and write full time. She left her home in New York during 2007 to live on Laguna Beach; where she currently lives. Lisi attempts to take real life adult experiences and turn them into teenage ‘clique’ problems in her series. She uses this inspiration in all the books she writes and many are actually created from her personal experiences, resulting in some very interesting stories. They may not be exactly as they occurred in her life, but she elaborates and makes them fun and interesting for her readers. Currently, Lisi spends up to eight hours each day writing in her office that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Even though she is so close, she can never go to the beach because of her writing, But as she says, “And that, my friends, is progress.”
